GEORGE FOX 10-7, PUGET SOUND 4-0: Pitching and Big Innings Lift Bruins by Loggers
TACOMA, Wash. – Stellar pitching by three George Fox University hurlers and a six-run inning in each game were the key ingredients for the George Fox University Bruins as they swept a Northwest Conference softball doubleheader from the University of Puget Sound Loggers, 10-4 and 7-0, Saturday afternoon here at Logger Field.
Game 1 – George Fox 10, at Puget Sound 4
Southpaw Rachel Fielder (2-1) tossed a complete-game six-hitter and Kerrianne Davidson and Kris Trindle had three hits apiece in a 12-hit attack as the Bruins took the opener. Only three of the Loggers’ run were earned against Fielder, who struck out three and walked only one.
George Fox got on top in the 2nd when Bethany Chriss reached on a an error, stole second, went to third on a ground out, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Nicole Renteria. In the 3rd, a Felicia Chavez sacrifice fly scored Jenny Milton and Chriss doubled in Trindle. Davidson slugged her first home run of the season in the 4th, a solo shot left.
The Bruins iced the win with six runs in the 5th. Chavez got the frame going with an RBI double, Renteria hit a two-run single, Davidson doubled in a run, another scored on an error, and Trindle drove in a run with a single to cap the rally.
The Loggers picked up four runs in the home half of the 5th, but it was too little, too late. Jolene Monfiletto had a two-run double in the rally.
Trindle scored twice and drove in a run while Davidson scored twice and knocked in two. Renteria and McKenzie Beeson had two hits apiece, Renteria driving in three runs. Amy Grause (0-2) took the loss, allowing four runs in 3.2 innings before Monfiletto allowed the remaining six Bruin runs.
Game 2 - George Fox 7, at Puget Sound 0
Erin Hento (4-3) pitched six innings of four-hit ball with four strikeouts and no walks to get the win. Allyssa DenDekker worked the 7th, allowing only one runner on an error.
Back-to-back doubles by Genetta Bennett and Jenny Milton gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead in the 4th before they exploded for six in the 6th. The Bruins took advantage of three Logger miscues and four wild pitches, and had three hits of their own, in the big inning. Bennett had a RBI single in the outburst, Milton tripled in two before Trindle tripled in Milton, one run scored on a wild pitch, and the final tally came on a Beeson ground out.
Milton finished with a 4-for-5 game, falling a home run shy of the cycle, as the Bruins banged out 11 hits, driving in three. Trindle and Bennett chipped in with two hits apiece.
